our story
tobias crabtree had been working in finance since graduating from college in 2002.  but toby wanted more freedom, his own hours, and to enjoy his work.  so toby quit his job, with its deadlines and its fine suits, and bought a ticket to europe.  he grew his hair out, bought a camera and two-month train pass, and started thinking of something else to do. 

chris murray met toby on his freshman hall at davidson college in the summer of 1997.  they lived two doors down from each other, but toby grew restless in the south and returned to new york city after two short years.

chris went on to nyc to pursue an acting and a writing career, struggling to eek out an existence with various jobs.  he’s had them all.  but he wanted more as well.  specifically, he wanted to put his “work” to better use. their paths crossed in new york at various gatherings of old college friends, but it wasn’t until toby proposed a tee shirt venture that the two became business partners.

with chris’ foundations firmly rooted in the nyc art scene and toby’s rooted in the world of business, tasty tees was born. two sides of the same coin sharing a vision.

toby is now at columbia business school where he has made the company part of the curriculum, while chris has extended his hand in the art world, gathering up and coming artists from the city and beyond to become part of this one of a kind project. 

together they want to promote the work of artists by printing one of a kind designs on the now ubiquitous tshirt. The tshirt as art, or art as the tshirt.  And they also wanted to give back, not only to the artists whose work they rely on, but to charity that supports the art, so they developed a business model that would pay the artists a fair price in order to “feed” them as well as set a little aside for reaching to embrace arts, a charity that provides art supplies for underfunded inner-city school art programs.   one thing is for sure, you can’t find these shirts anywhere else, and chances are, you’ll be the only one wearing one.  and you’re friends will ask, where did you get that?  why, tasty tees, of course.
